A Little of Everything January 29, 2012

Weather looked good but there were so many things to do ... so off we set to do everything  ....  to Mary's Spring to find a geocache then ... to the Crow's Nest so our visitor could use the internet and of course visit with all the southend people who were also visiting Tlell.  Crutches, canes and walking sticks ....

Then back to  St Mary's Spring area to find our hiking buddy's new geocache  ..... we arrive [only posted yesterday] to find 2 other geocachers there already.

So we set off on a new trail ... great trail, interesting terrain, good experience except we didn't find the cache and the others did! Congratulations to them. We did enjoy the hike.

Next back up to the Crow's Nest and then back to the Auction ... always entertaining, and sometimes/usually somebody comes home with something!

Skipped Jungle Beach as the wind was rising as was the tide ... full of fun, stories, and plans for the week!

No Meadow No Beach Walk January 23, 2012

The sun came out so immediately plans were made to hit the trails ... tide was high so the plan was Tarundl Loop system. There was lots of crunchy snow, easy walking, fresh air, and we are heading right along and ready to go across the beach and into the forest when ..........................

Higher than high tide ... no beach, no trail.

Plan B was walk around by the road and go down the creek side of the trail. Easy walking no problem but as we got nearer we could lots of reflections ... again not a normal view ... lots of flooding on the field, which was being enjoyed by a substantial flock of geese.  So no walk on the meadow!

Headed down to Kagan Bay ... great views but absolutely no beach!

Mystery Hike today January 18, 2012

Unusual weather ... cold with high wind chills lately .... today was a bit warmer, less windy, and lots of sun ... so while some of our hikers were at work and some off island there was a short impetuous hike!

Got to walk on water ... that is a bit unusual ................. looks like they will be skating in Tlell tonight!

See if you can guess where the hike was?????????????

Back up the Inlet January 15, 2012

Because we took down the Skidegate Inlet geocache yesterday we had to replace it today ... so another wonderful hike up the beach ... non-motorized although we did discuss hiking further up towards Slatechuck and getting a ride back! We went as far as the sea asparagus fields ... waiting for May!

The cache is back in its original position  ..... not its last!
Checked out the walkie/talkies
We learned how to use our time delays on the cameras .... it took a while as 10 seconds on slippery rocks isn't very much!

Ariel was missing, too bad as we ran into several groups of juncos feeding on the beach

Geocaching Up the Inlet

Fantastic day ... brilliant sun, snow on the tress [yes and some on the ground too!] ... a low enough tide that we decided to head up to find the Skidegate Inlet Cache ....

With geocaching you have to read everything very carefully ... this time the important info was in the posts as it had been moved from the original spot.

We avoided "mugglers" (those who see you looking and might spirit the cache away when you are gone) ...

FOUND IT .... and had a wonderful 2 hour hike up the inlet.

Tlell Beach - January 9

This was a bit of a stymied walk ... tried to get to the beach at Misty Meadows but pathway was drowned out ... not passable, who knew we would need gumboots! Second try went to Andrews Place access ... lovely walk through to the steps ... very big deadfall across the steps! So next we go to the Tlell Day park area where we were able to get to the beach for a great beach walk complete with treasure finding!

First of the new year January 8, 2012

The forecast wasn't too good so when the hike was proposed we had few takers ... then we ended up on 2 different islands!

One half when to Moresby with geocaching on their mind ... that story we can tell

The other group went to the Knob to find the way in the back way ... they will have to tell their own story ... it is a good one; something about bushwacking and long walk to get the car!

Moresby trek started off with a bit of birding ... Canada, Snow? and later some Brandt

The road down to Gray Bay was pretty good until after the turn off ... lots of blow down, which we had to drive over very carefully [it was the new car's maiden voyage]. We headed to one of our favourite spots, into Secret Cove ... where strangely [after looking a couple of times before, unsuccessfully] we went straight to the Atlantis Cache ... then feeling very proud of ourselves spent some time checking the beach and admiring the waves crashing in ... It was warm, dry and totally calm ... quite a magical spot.

Next we head to the ALM Cache ... and replaced it once more. The beach was covered in clam shells with a few moonshells sprinkled in ... some beautifully coloured sea weeds.

Too early for lunch and with 2 more caches to find we headed off towards Pallant ... it is always longer than you remember.

Quite quickly we found MIRCO, which was quite micro and clever too ... we celebrated with lunch before heading to Mt Moresby Adventure Camp for a final cache ... thanks to Heather's persistence and enthusiasm we had another celebration. We want to send our thanks to Awesome Possum for her great ingenuity. You have raised the bar! We has just enough time left for a hike into the falls ... the Pallant was really running as was the Copper!

The trip home going via South Bay was quite something ... trees down everywhere, passable but just ... the rivers are as high as we'd ever seen them. Another celebration, hot chocolate, cookies and Christmas cake in the ferry line up in the dark ... home by 6:00 with 3/4 finds to post.
