A more Unusual "Hike"

With the upcoming Royal Wedding a plan was hatched ... 6 of the Over the Hillers organized for a sleepover/pj party to watch the royal wedding live [between 1-5 AM] ... then a short hike at low tide with a mission.

See if you can find it ... it is our present to the community [inspired by a newspaper article from Victoria].

Enjoy the sunrises or sunsets just watch the tides!

2nd Annual Easter Outlook Hike [Jag's trail to the Outlook and Spirit Lake]

Our numbers have expanded which is great as we don't want people taking any risks in hiking alone ... so 14 of us went on a planned new [for many] trail hike. We planned for cars at each end of the trail. Then started out from the Kaay side. The trail is very well marked and because it has lots of traffic it was a bit wet, but not a problem! Our group was well spread out along the trail so there was no noise pollution ... and folks were able to move up and down the groups for new conversations ... which was great as we had visitors and everybody didn't know each other.

The views were great from the 4 Outlooks ... didn't see any whales, but watched the ferry, sail up the coast ... terrific views! Thanks to all those who so carefully and thoughtfully trimmed the trees.

The cross-over to the Lake has suffered from the "Fall/Winter winds" but it is well marked and with a bit of over, under and along, we made it. There are some wet spots but nothing we couldn't handle; did appreciate the wooden rounds in the boggy spots.

Everybody sounded keen to do it again ... probably before next Easter!

So special thanks to those who dreamed it and all who worked on the Trail.

Too nice a day not to go ...

It was just too nice a day not to drop almost everything to escape up the inlet ... so that's what we did. It was great to visit and cach up as we walked up the inlet ... crossing creeks on the rocks ... no sea asparagus in sight yet!

We found a marine scarecrow or something!

Next organized hike is Easter Monday 11:00ish ... Jag's Trail to the Overlook then to Spirit Lake.

Crabapple Creek trail marking

This afternoon we managed to get part of the Crabapple Creek Trails marked with orange arrows. Please let us know if you think something should be changed ... There is more work to do but we ran out of time.

Seaweed Workshop in the wild

The second part of a great Seaweed Identification Workshop with Dolly Garza ...

2nd Beach, below the Museum ... lots of seaweeds and critters...

Lots of information and fun ... maybe some new recipes too.

Gorgeous Moon means very low tide

Clear nights have enabled us to view the recent gorgeous moons ... it also means some low, low tides ... so here are some views ...

of all the critters and all the rocks that were also enjoying the low tides this morning.

Escapees

A couple of the Over the Hillers escaped to the mainland ... got as far as Terrace ... so before leaving they went off "hiking" on Ferry Island to find a geocache.

They found a geocache [1 of 4 hidden there] some lovely trails in dull, unleafed forests [spring isn't there yet] and some really fun sculptures within the forest.

Reccommend this area.

Not so gorgeous day with work to do on Tarundl Loop Trails

Marking more trails ... today a drizzly day, which fits within our 20 minute rule [if we think we are going to get wet then must be within 20 minutes of home and a towel].
Today it was the Tarundl Creek Loops ... yellow tags about 6'/2m high arrows.
These trails are well established so we have tried to put the markers so that they will give new comers to the area confidence. The intersecting trail has not been marked as yet ... special thanks to whomever has been working on the blowdown in this section.

There is work to be done on these trails from the 2010 winds ... but all are walkable.
Several entry posts are needed and plans are being made.

Move for Health Day and Over the Hill Hikers are going to be hosting an event on these trails ... probably May 7 for hotdogs, games and fun [watch for posters etc.]

Gorgeous Day with Work to do Charlie Hartie Creek

Thanks to the QC Seniors and indirectly the Vof QC ... we have markers for the local trails. Red was chosen for Charlie Hartie Creek .... and off we went, 3 Over the Hill Hikers accompanied by Pedro,  complete with our red markers, aluminum nails, and a couple of hammers.

It is a pretty clear trail so we tried to mark it when there was a chance of getting off the trail ... look for red arrows about 6'/2 m high. We even took time out to search for the one geocaches that had escaped us last time. Success [thanks BobbyLee].

It is pretty much uphill all the way so we stopped when the trail started looking much less travelled and decided that the next trip up we need a bigger lunch and some more google-earth information.

Great hike, lots of markers done and now we need someone to try it and see if the markers are in the right places.

We carefully arranged for the nails to make faces, eyes, and eyebrows .... you will see what we mean ... the hemlock trees are really hard, spruce not quite so bad and the ceders were fine!

Take your time enjoy this hike ... it is dry and while not on the creek you can listen to the flowing water.
